Kate is home safe and sound at Hekima Place!

We want to thank each and every person who attended one of our Kate Talks while Kate was in the US! We loved sharing all of the exciting updates from Hekima Place and reconnecting after her last trip in 2021. If you missed her during this trip, don’t worry! Kate will be returning to the US in the Fall with more news to share. Be sure to check our website or follow us on social media for the latest news on our future events!

Kate would also like to share that her email address has changed! You can now reach her at mumkate@hekimaplace.org! Be sure to update your address books to stay in touch! Please note, Kate will no longer have access to her previous email addresses. If you require any assistance in connecting with Kate, please outreach to Laura Bright at lbright@hekimaplace.org.

Come Together 2022 was a huge success… Because of you!

Hekima Place hosted a fabulous event on July 29th where we had the pleasure of experiencing Pittsburgh’s premier Beatles tribute band, Come Together! Together, we traveled back in time to dance, laugh, and love while supporting our mission of providing a safe, loving home for the girls who live and learn with us! We have tons of beautiful photos from the event so be sure to visit our Facebook album Come Together 2022 to check them out!

We want to share our sincere gratitude to each and every person who danced the night away with us as well as our generous sponsors who donated to make the night such a success! Thank you so much for continuing to support the important work we are doing at Hekima Place! Together, we are building the future… one girl at a time!

Our Home!

It has been a busy month at our home with many exciting updates to share!

We are so proud of Esther Shiro and Bridget for their confirmation this month! We are blessed to share beautiful photos of both girls on the event of their receiving the sacrament of confirmation which was officiated by Rt. Rev. Bishop John Oballa Owaa at Kiseran Catholic Church.

We also had the privilege of hosting a prayer event at our home where local priests joined the Hekima Family to thank God for his protection and love of Hekima Place for the past 17 years.

Our staff had an in-depth training on First Aid and CPR to ensure each child has the proper care when needed! From CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver to bandaging and wound care, our staff have the knowledge and resources to spring into action if and when the need arises!

Alumnae Spotlight

Hello, my name is Diana Ayuma and I am 21 years old and I am from Hekima Place as one of My mum “Mum Kate’s” girls.

I am writing this to get a chance to share how Hekima Place has impacted my life. Because of Hekima Place, I feel I have grown to become a very matured, responsible, respectful, talented, and more confident person. I am so grateful and happy to be part of the Hekima Place family and I don’t know how I will ever thank them for all that they have given me, but I have always dreamed of starting a foundation to help kids like me. I have a goal of giving to those who have lacked things like me, to make sure they feel loved like I was loved at Hekima Place.

Hekima Place has helped me emotionally like when I had a hard time with my sisters or had bad feelings from my mum. They were able to make me understand my mum more. I also attended counselling. This really helped especially now that I am away from Hekima and all alone in the world far from them. And spiritually, they helped me because I created a good relationship with God.

Through Hekima Place’s support, I had access to education and I learned a lot. I was never an A student but I loved other parts of school like drawing, I loved computers and I learned that this was my passion. I was happy after high school because I got to study what I really loved. Now, I am a graphic designer and working to be the best at it.

All I can say is that Hekima is the best home I had and I will never forget what they did for me from when I was very young all the way to today. Our mum, Mum Kate, has the sweetest heart and is the best parent, loving and also tough which taught me a lot. I hope to start my own home so I can change people’s lives.

I could write forever because there is so much I can say about this home of love.
