A Message from Kate!

Dearest Friends of Hekima,

How can we ever thank you for changing the lives of these precious kids???  Our home is flourishing with more and more tiny ones.  We are using three of our four cottages and have four tiny tots less than two. Six of our girls are in class 7 and 8  and are attending a local school under the old curriculum… and then there are the 27 clumping through the farm path to our very own Hekima Hills Learning Centre.

Our school is making a huge impact not only for our girls but for the local community. We now have 220 children in pre-school all the way up to class six for the 2022 school term.

You would be so proud of the alumnae girls who are shining like stars as mothers and career women – in pharmacy, graphic arts, mental health counselling, digital furniture sales, marketing and other fields of work.

Please know we are ever grateful and pray for you all daily!

God Bless,

You still have time to make DOUBLE the impact!

Thanks to the generosity of one of our longtime donors, your donation will be matched up to $10,000 if you respond by June 30, 2020!  That means, for a limited time, you can DOUBLE your impact to help break the cycle of poverty for the girls and women at Hekima Place.

Every dollar you give will go TWO TIMES as far. When girls are empowered to improve their lives, they can go on to improve the world. Please don’t miss this urgent opportunity to make every dollar go twice as far to give someone like Grace access to books, technology, teachers, and educational opportunities.

Our Home!

Throughout April, we had many blessings. As we were experiencing a long draught, our hearts celebrated as we had the blessings of rain whose impact we cannot fully express but we are so blessed that our farm, our animals, and the Earth received the nourishment needed.

April saw the girls at home for the holidays, they went back to school towards the end of the month for the 2022 school term. It was wonderful seeing each girl walk through our shamba (farm) to Hekima Hills Learning Centre and begin another exciting year of growth and education.

We celebrated six of our girl’s graduation from Form 4 as we received their final examination scores. We are currently waiting to see what school the girls will attend for the next step in their educational journey!

We at Hekima are very grateful that as we write to each of you, the fields look beautifully green. The birds of the air sing with delight to welcome each morning as there is plenty for them. The herds of cows are slowly regaining their health and are proud to produce more milk. Each girl is thriving as they grow, learn, laugh, and play as we celebrate the Resurrection.

We pray for you every day and are so thankful for you in everything that we do. All glory to God.

Our School!

Hekima Hills Learning Centre (HHLC) is thrilled to begin the 2022 school term. Our doors opened to the students on April 26th for their very first day. We welcomed new students from the community and many of the girls from Hekima Place had their very first day at school as they began PP1(Play Group1).

When HHLC opened its doors, we were met with the global pandemic and were forced to close. This only gave us time to strengthen our commitment to our community, to our children, and to their future. We started with 203 students in 2021 and as the word spread of our school that is built on love, our classes have grown to having 220 students!

Our curriculum has grown along with us as we transitioned to the new model of CBC or Competence Based Curriculum where we build on skills for a brighter future for each child. This includes skills-based classes such as Home Science, Agriculture, Music, Computer Science, and many other exciting classes.

Our school Scouts have continued to be successful and will be competing with other groups this month. We are sending all of our support as they aim to bring home trophies and metals for the activities they thrive at!

We are so excited to continue this journey and to see the child grow into the wonderful people they dream to be. With the support of each of you, we are empowering each child to become the positive change in their communities and in the world.

Alumnae Spotlight!

Hello, my name is Nancy. I am 23 years. I am teacher, a reader, a writer, but most importantly a mother. I became all of these great things from so little. I owe all this, after God, to strangers who took a chance on me and gave me the best education that l could ever hope for.

Through these kindred spirits of Hekima Place, I was able to become the best version of myself. From being orphaned when l was little, to raising a child as a single mom due to the unexpected death of my husband and his father, l still remain empowered because l know that Hekima taught me l am the strongest person l know.

l just want to say to all the donors, from wherever you are reading this in your part of the world, thank you. God bless you.
